Face to Face With Jesus - a Lenten Meditation

DAY 36 OF 40

It’s weird that this woman is dragged to Jesus for Him to pronounce judgement on her publicly, by a crowd of people who were far from perfect. The woman must have been shivering in shame and guilt when Jesus takes the focus off of her by bending down and writing something on the ground. He asked that the sinless people in the crowd begin stoning her. One by one the people snuck out, leaving just the woman there. Jesus acquits her but he doesn’t do it without a condition attached- “Go and leave your life of sin”.

Jesus was the epitome of grace and truth. He did not condemn anyone but he did not turn away from convicting them. The Holy Spirit does the same thing today. The Holy Spirit will also keep us from being hypocritical and judgemental by alerting us to those sinful tendencies and bringing us to true repentance.

Questions to ask yourself
Have I been judging others?
Can I commit to not judging others and looking closer at my own life?
