THROUGH LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS
Solomon affirmed that God is ultimately in control and his good purposes will prevail, even in spite of human sin. Even the wicked, who seem to avoid destruction in this life, will surely face the judgment of God. The prideful person will not escape the coming day of disaster, and the folly of pride will be exposed on that day. In contrast, those whose lives are marked by humility — who understand the fear of the Lord — they will experience the love and faithfulness of God and in turn love God and walk faithfully with him. This is the glorious truth about the character of God. Though he is holy and pure, he is not quick to anger, nor is he vindictive or capricious in his wrath. He is “the LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Ex 34:6). God extends mercy in allowing prideful rebels time to confess their sins and humble themselves before the mighty hand of God. As Peter says, “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2Pe 3:9). Each day God gives is evidence of his love, and those who hear his voice should turn to him in faith as long as today is called today (Heb 3:12 – 15).
Jesus, even when this world seems to be spinning wildly out of control, I know you are still in control. Thank you for being so patient with your people. Thank you for giving everyone a chance to turn to you. Amen.
