DAY 4 OF 5

As Jesus was teaching one day, a group of religious leaders called the Pharisees came to him with a woman. They had caught her being adulterous and living a sinful life. The Pharisees asked Jesus what to do with her, because their laws said they should kill her by throwing stones at her. Jesus told them they could do that, but only the people who have never sinned could throw a stone. The crowd that formed around him left one by one; no one is purely innocent, and Jesus knew that they had no right to judge someone else for her sin.

Sometimes, we want to be quick to judge the sins of others. We point them out to people, and we think it makes us look better to point out the flaws in those around us. Jesus showed, through this woman, that none of us are in positions to judge others until we work on our own sin. Jesus told the woman to “go and sin no more.” It is up to us to not only withhold judgment from others, but to work on ourselves first.

Challenge: Is there someone in your life that you’ve been judging? Take a minute to pray for that person. When you are tempted to judge someone else today, stop and ask for forgiveness from God, then try to live more like him.

The Bible is full of stories about people who God used to do amazing things. There are hundreds of names in the Bible and exciting tales about ways God impacted peoples’ lives. There are also characters in the Bible whose names are not given. This week, we want to dive into the story of 5 anonymous women in the Bible and see what we can learn from their stories.
