In the book of Genesis, Abraham’s nephew, Lot, and his wife went into the city of Sodom, which was full of corruption. God was going to destroy the city because of how sinful and out of control it became. God instructed Lot and his wife to leave the city and keep walking without turning around to look behind them. He wanted to spare their lives and see if they trusted him. As Lot and his wife left the city, Lot followed God’s instructions and didn’t turn around, but his wife disobeyed. She doubted God’s instructions and distrusted his plan, and because of her disobedience, she immediately turned into a pillar of salt! This story is crazy, but the message is clear: we need to trust that God knows what’s best. Even if it means following his instructions when they don’t make sense, God is always in control, and it’s in our best interest to do what he says.
Challenge: Where do you need to be brave and trust God? Today, write down a situation that seems scary to you, and take some time to pray about it. Then, throw it away. Trust that God’s got it under control.
