Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your ChildrenSample

Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your Children

DAY 10 OF 10

Scripture: Read Psalm 1 for the full context of this passage.

"But His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law, he meditates on day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." Psalm 1:2-3

At the beginning of this book of Psalms, David speaks to the importance of wise counsel in your life. Two paths are described: one that leads to life and the other that leads to death.

Consider who or what is influencing your child's heart? We are influenced by music, friends, news, family, videos, TV shows, or books. However, research shows that parents are the #1 influence in their children's lives. If you are not speaking truth and love into the heart of your child, rest assured someone else will.

As we come to the end of our devotional, remember to keep on praying and connecting with your children. It's never too late or too soon to pray and connect with your kids. You can be the voice of love that reminds them who God is and who they are in Christ.

Pray: Heavenly Father, I pray {your child's name} would choose life-giving friends and influences. May he/she desire to walk in righteousness, delight in your Word, and meditate on it day and night so that {your child's name} will be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields fruit in season and its leaf does not wither. Amen

Connect: Catch your child walking in truth and righteousness. Then say, “I noticed when you ___. Those good choices make you strong inside so you're not easily uprooted.” Show them a picture of a tree with deep roots.

I've enjoyed walking alongside you on this prayer journey. I'd love to connect with you! You can continue reading more encouraging words and prayers over at my blog or connect with me on Facebook @InspiredbyFamily.
