Growing as an Enneagram Three: The AchieverSample
Your Gift of Encouragement
God made us to need each other. We weren’t meant to go through life without relationships, and encouragement is a huge part of that. Giving someone our support, confidence, or hope is one way we can help each other and bear each other’s burdens.
We support someone when we remind them of their own talents, abilities, and the power of Christ in them. We can supply confidence to someone who is feeling apprehensive or hesitant on their own by giving them a pep talk. And we can help the people around us to hope when they’re tempted to despair by reminding them of who their hope is in. When the specifics in our lives change, God’s faithfulness does not.
As an Enneagram Three, you are typically a mixture of being motivated by worth, future-focused, and success-oriented. All of these characteristics combine to help you spot potential from a mile away, which makes you especially gifted in encouragement.
Some Threes might use this gift to spot their potential competition and tear them down, while others might use it to pick the most unsuspecting people for their team project. Still, other Achievers use it to get ahead of the stock market. But most Threes use this ability to spot others’ strengths and call that out. The latter is an act of encouragement in the most basic sense.
Do you find yourself people watching? Can you tell who the most successful or likable person in the room is? Do you have an intuition about the potential in kids or teenagers? Are you pained when the people around you waste their capabilities? This is all a part of your talent in spotting potential.
This gifting makes you a huge asset during the casting-vision season of entrepreneurship. It makes you a great interviewer, an inspirational speaker, and a motivating leader.
Encouraging is a way you use this talent no matter what your job field or season of life. Encouraging others toward their potential makes you instrumental in making the world a better place and making others’ lives more fulfilling.
You may find yourself in a career where encouragement is a day-to-day activity, such as pastoring, teaching, or public speaking. But Threes can take almost any position and make encouragement part of their job description. It’s just second nature to Achievers. And encouragement is a necessity in all fields.
About this Plan
The Enneagram is an ancient personality typology. The theory behind it is that a person assumes one of nine personalities in childhood as a reaction to discovering the world as a scary, unkind place, and thus unlikely to accept their true self. This devotional is designed for Enneagram Threes, also known as the Achiever.
