Six Steps to a More Engaging Prayer Life

DAY 5 OF 7

Y – Yield to The Holy Spirit’s Direction

In John 14, Jesus told His disciples that it was critical that He go back to His Father in Heaven. Jesus knew that the Holy Spirit could not come to earth in His fullness unless Jesus returned there and sent the Spirit down. See, in the grand design of eternity, the Godhead knew that only when the Spirit was poured out upon all flesh as prophesied in the book of Joel and then fulfilled in the book of Acts, could God fully mobilize humanity to propagate Heaven’s agenda on earth.  As we mentioned earlier, Jesus was totally dependent upon His Father for everything. He was in constant dialogue with God in prayer and said that He could do nothing unless He first heard His Father give the word. Likewise, we now are to be completely dependent on the Holy Spirit, and it is through His direction and enablement that our prayers receive power to accomplish their directives. The Holy Spirit is our GPS, and Jesus promised us the Spirit would lead us and give us everything we could possibly need. One of my favorite passages in Scripture is John 16:13-15. Listen to it from The Message version: “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t handle them now. But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, He will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to Himself but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said. He will honor Me; He will take from me and deliver it to you. Everything the Father has is also Mine. That is why I have said, ‘He takes from Me and delivers to you.’”

This divine transaction of information is downloaded from Heaven’s cloud through prayer; furthermore, the Spirit will even pray through you when you’re at a loss for words on how to pray. Not only that, He will pray the perfect will of God every time – Note Romans 8:26, 27 (Amplified) “In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words. And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will.”

Prayer: God, I ask for Your help, Your Holy Spirit.. I am learning how to pray, and Jesus promised me that You, Holy Spirit, would be my friend and tutor. Please lead me in how to pray the Father’s heart and empower my prayers for maximum impact!

About this Plan

Six Steps to a More Engaging Prayer Life

John Wesley is credited for saying, “God does nothing but by prayer, and everything with it.” Although we may or may not be called to pioneer a global Christian reformation, prayer gives us immediate access to God. This miracle-working God is longing to meet us in prayer to partner with Him in reforming our spheres of influence! This plan includes an acrostic to help you bolster up your prayer life.
