Six Steps to a More Engaging Prayer Life

DAY 2 OF 7

P – Purpose to Persevere

We live in a day of instant everything: Instant messaging, instant credit, instant purchases, instant meals, and instant communication – depending on your Wi-Fi speed. But truly, we’ve become a microwave culture and perseverance goes against our grain. However, prayer was never meant to be a quick text message needing an even quicker reply. Prayer was Jesus’ lifeline to His Father.

Though Jesus knew all things that could be known, He spent hours in prayer further cultivating a relationship with His Father that had been going on for eternity. In Luke 18:1, Jesus told His disciples that men ought always to pray and not give up! Paul informed the church at Colossae in Colossians 4:12, that Epaphras, a brother in Christ, was striving in prayer for them, that he had great zeal in prayer on their behalf.

The word “strive” that is used there in the Greek means “to engage in a contest, to fight against an adversary, to not be moved.” If we are to be effective in prayer, we have to go into it with a mindset of perseverance. Jesus also told us in Matthew 6:4 that the Father who sees us in secret will reward us openly. Don’t quit!

Prayer: Lord, let my prayer life be fervent and consistent! In my praying, let me not grow weary in well-doing. Give me spiritual fortitude to press into your heart and presence and not let go until you move in power!

About this Plan

Six Steps to a More Engaging Prayer Life

John Wesley is credited for saying, “God does nothing but by prayer, and everything with it.” Although we may or may not be called to pioneer a global Christian reformation, prayer gives us immediate access to God. This miracle-working God is longing to meet us in prayer to partner with Him in reforming our spheres of influence! This plan includes an acrostic to help you bolster up your prayer life.
