Getting God’s Perspective On Your LifeSample
Securing Our Weapons
One practical way to renew your mind with the Word of God is by writing out scriptures and “truth statements” on index cards and reading them both silently and aloud. We need to hear ourselves speak the truth to counter the lies that are inside of us! When the Word of God is spoken, it always has the final authority. The enemy has to shut his lying mouth (Matt. 4: 10-11)!
For example, if you are struggling with feelings of anxiety, you could write a card that said, “I have the mind of Christ, and He gives me peace” and speak that truth over yourself. Pronouncing this truth pushes out the lie of anxiety and enables you to step into the peace Jesus makes available.
Many people believe the lie that God abandoned them when they needed Him the most. But the truth is that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1). We can say with confidence, “I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Ps. 23:4).
Still others have received a “once an addict, always an addict” label. But the Word of God labels us a “new creation” (2 Cor. 5:17) and “free” because “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
You can build your own collection of scripture cards to renew your mind. Ask the Lord to show you one lie from the enemy that currently has power in your life. Now grab a stack of index cards and start digging through the Bible to find key scriptures that speak to that lie. When you come across a scripture that really speaks to you and to the specific lie you are struggling with, write it on an index card. (You’ll want to write one scripture per index card.)
Searching for key words in the concordance section of your Bible will be helpful in finding specific, applicable verses. Once you’ve written at least five scripture cards to combat this particular lie, you can apply this practice to any other lie that the enemy has thrown at you. Over time, you will have built a powerful Truth arsenal to defeat the enemy for good!
