Getting God’s Perspective On Your Life

DAY 1 OF 5

Higher Thoughts

The Word of God tells us that when we renew our minds, our lives will be changed (Rom. 12:2). Renewing your mind means to do away with lies and replace them with truth from God’s Word. It is impossible to do without God’s help. The world can help you change a behavior, but God helps you change your beliefs and actions, which begins with a change inside the human heart.

When we meditate on the Word and choose what we think, we are empowered to take a much more active role in changing our perspective. God never promised that no weapon will be formed against us but that no weapon formed against us will prosper (Isa. 54:17).

When we latch on to His perspective on life, the weapons—the lies, fears, and hurts—will not prosper. We learn to actively break agreement with the enemy and tell him he is a liar. When we renew our minds, we participate with Him to work out our own salvation in a practical way (Phil. 2:12).

  • Behind every bad habit or bondage is a lie. People speak lies to themselves every day.
  • “It’s not that big of a deal. It helps me get through the day.”
  • “I have to promote myself. Nobody else will do it for me.”
  • “Depression is just part of who I am. I’m a melancholy personality.”
  • “With the way I look, nobody could love me.”

And on and on. We play untrue thoughts through our heads so frequently that we convince ourselves that they are true. Science tells us that repetitive thoughts over time become physical ruts in the brain that affect our reasoning, choices, and eventually our beliefs.

The enemy is focused intensely on your thought life because from it your whole life proceeds (Prov. 4:23). As with Adam and Eve in the garden, the enemy tries to blind us to our true identity and purpose. So many people live apart from their identity and purpose because they choose to believe lies.

Getting God’s perspective is a process and will help us from falling into fresh, new lies the enemy has for us. We must commit our minds completely to Christ so lies can be erased, and He can do a powerful work of grace in us.
