90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
(contribution written by Jennifer Miller)
In today and tomorrow's devotional, we'd like you to think about what is called “bottom line” and “top line” behaviors. Today, let's take a look at bottom line behaviors. A bottom line behavior is any sexual or emotional or physical act which, once engaged in, leads to a loss of control of the addictive process.
In the Scripture referenced, Jesus knew that the rich man was controlled by money and that if he didn't give up the thing that controlled him, he wouldn't find eternal life. Sometimes we can do many things to try to be accountable, but they just aren't the right things. In accountability, it's important to understand your very bottom line behaviors that will keep you walking in freedom.
Bottom lines are different for everyone, but we suggest coming up with a list of five bottom line behaviors that you can post on your bathroom mirror, bedroom wall, or car dashboard, and share a copy with your accountability partner(s).
Examples could include:
- I will not be on my laptop, phone or tablet after 9pm because evenings are a weak time for me.
- I will not go to that club because of the type of people I will meet there and what may happen as a result.
- I will not watch movies or listen to music that will trigger my fantasies or longings to act out.
What are some bottom lines you need to establish in your recovery? Are you willing to be asked about these by your accountability partner at any time?
