DAY 8 OF 10

Who are you?

Right at the start of the letter that Paul was writing to the Ephesians, he refers to everyone in the church as ‘saints… in Christ Jesus”.

Saints… Really? What about my buddy who I sit next to at church, a saint? Perhaps you're questioning that title, even for yourself.

Now in Ephesus at this time, they had the same kind of people we do. The gossips, workaholics, addicts, the self-righteous, the proud, and the weird. But Paul wrote to all the believers in the church in Ephesus and actually other regions, regarding their identity (and ours). He said, if you are “IN CHRIST JESUS”, (a simple way of saying we’re following Him as our Lord, and being transformed by Him); if we’re in Him and Him in us, we are saints.

For a long time, I would claim ‘acceptance’ and be ok with who I am, as a way of not having to change. It's a form of pride, of fear, and although it masquerades as a noble thought, even a virtue, it is preventing you from becoming who you were created to be.

See, a lie believed as truth will affect you as if it were true.

Who I have become now, is not fully who I am meant to be, nor is this who I want to be in the future. Thank God He is not done, or giving up on us.

So let me ask you this question. Who are you? You are not only who you are right now, who you have become. My prayer for you is that you are on your way, in Christ, to be far greater than who you have become right now.

In Ephesians 2:10, Paul continues to let us know who we are in Jesus; “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

I want to point out here that you are not your handiwork, you are God's handiwork. So your view of who you are should be run through the filter of who God says you are.

Question 1: What do you think about these labels God has given you? ‘Saint'? 'His handiwork’?
Question 2: What can you identify from your past that may have caused you to struggle to believe what God says about you?
