Identifying our Appetites
Have you ever craved something so badly that you couldn't wait until tomorrow for that particular snack that you drove all over town to find it? Some people have done some crazy things to satisfy their appetites! (How about those pregnancy cravings?)
Appetite is a desire or want and where your appetite goes, your life will usually follow. You will not endure inconveniences for something you have no appetite for.
In the first part of this story in Luke 18:18-23, we read about a rich young ruler, who decided that eternity did not matter most. He craved his possessions more than a relationship with the King of Kings in the flesh!
We see a rich young ruler that missed his moment to serve God. Missed out on the greater blessing and greater life promised to him by the Lord. What was it about this guy? He had a greater appetite for something more than his appetite for God.
We have to be able to identify what we love more than God and then become willing to walk away from it.
So how do you create an appetite for something? Regular consumption. Most people are sugar addicts without knowing because of regular consumption.
Today is a great day to start the detox from some of your unhelpful cravings and develop a greater appetite for the things of God!
Question 1: What are some things that would benefit you, if you were to remove them from your life?
Question 2: What plan do you have for regular consumption of God-things?
Scripture
About this Plan
Make the best new years decision. Stop, and open - Stop, and look up - Stop, and invite God's presence in. The adventure of this year awaits. Inhale, exhale - the best is about to come.
