Christmas for Kids: 12 Days of Peace

DAY 11 OF 12

Starry Starry Night

By Nick K.

STORY
Have you ever sat outside and looked up at the night sky? Spending time looking up can make us think about big stuff. I used to spend a lot of time outside at night, just watching the sky. Even now, when the weather is just right, I’ll head out for a walk around the block. It’s times like that I feel like God gets me to Himself. The night sky makes me want to be quiet and think about God.

SCRIPTURE
Read Matthew 2:1–11.

THINK
The wise men (or magi) were not Jewish, but knew that God was trying to tell them something important through the night sky. They traveled hundreds of miles because of what they saw. They were able to do this because they were paying attention to what God was telling them.

When they arrived in Israel, they asked King Herod where they could find this “King of the Jews.” Herod had to find out where He would be born. He found out by asking those that knew God’s Word that the Savior would be born in Bethlehem.

Do you know what happened after the wise men saw Jesus? God warned them through a dream not to go back to Herod because he had bad plans.

God speaks in all kinds of ways to get our attention—the clearest way is through His Word, the Bible, and through prayer. More than anything, God wants you and Him to be close. If we start paying attention to Him, we can find out what He is saying to us, too.

DO SOMETHING
Ask a parent to take a walk outside with you before bedtime. Look up at the stars and listen to what the nighttime sounds like. Talk to God silently about what you were thinking while walking.

PRAY
Dear God, thank You for the peace You bring through Jesus. Help me to think about Your ways. Help me to remember Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” Amen.
