Action Speaks Louder than Words
1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Story
After Moses passed away, Joshua was in charge of the Israelites. Before entering Canaan, he sent out 2 spies to observe the land, especially the city of Jericho. There, the 2 spies stayed at Rahab’s house. When the king of Jericho found out about it, he sent his men to go to Rahab’s house to catch the spies. However, Rahab hid them and told the king’s men that she didn't know where the spies went. The spies were saved by Rahab.
Why did Rahab save the 2 spies, who were actually strangers to her?
It was because Rahab had heard that the God of Israel had done so many great and miraculous things to protect the Israelites from their enemies and she believed in their God!
Rahab’s action spoke louder than her words. She went to such great lengths to save the spies. By doing this, she demonstrated what she believed in, and showed a great devotion to God. God rewarded Rahab for her faith. When the Israelites took over Jericho, Rahab and her family were spared. Later on, Rahab married an Israelite and many, many years later, her name was in the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5)
Prayer
Dear God, let me be the person who glorifies Your name through my actions. Let me be the doer of Your word. Amen.
