Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
Faith is Not Enough
Acts 21:20, 22, 30-31
“…Then they said to Paul: ‘You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews believed, and all of them are zealous for the law…They will certainly hear that you have come’…The whole city was aroused…Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops…”
It is possible to believe in Jesus for salvation but still be bound by the laws and regulations of our old life before Christ. The many thousands of Jews who believed in Christ and still lived under the law of Moses, didn’t have a problem killing Paul.
How can we believe but have murder in our hearts?
These Jews felt Paul was a blasphemer worthy of death under Mosaic law. Without ongoing discipleship and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, we too can oppose the work of God in others when it looks different from our own experience. Believing in Christ must be followed by discipleship, growth in humility and love, and life-long transformation into the image of Christ.
Lord Jesus, you are my life. I choose this day to surrender my thoughts, speech and actions to you. Teach me your ways, for your glory.
