ENOUGH: DESIRES
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
What are the desires of your heart?
So often, life sells us a lie, convincing us that things and experiences will fill the void in us. Yet, when we get the promised thing at last, peace proves elusive, and so we seek the next thing.
Yet this verse points to a different story. The psalmist writes of the desires of our hearts, the fierce yearnings of our deepest places, and leads us to the truth that it’s only God who will fulfil those desires, and it’s only in the act of rejoicing in God that we will find our bitterness soothed.
It’s not that delighting in God will bring us the stuff we want, but the one thing we need, which is more of God. And God’s treasures are often found in the greatest of poverty, negating the distortion that we will only be satisfied with more stuff or more acclaim.
Dear Lord, thank You that our deepest desires are only met by looking to You: that delighting in You is where our soul finds home. Help us to keep our eyes on You, even when the world entices us away. Captivate us with the depths of Your love, and remind us of the riches found in You. Amen.

About this Plan
In God’s eyes, we are more than enough. It’s why He sent His son to reconcile us to Him. Though we may never grasp just how much He loves us, at Lent we can take time to reflect on all He did for us. It's time to reject the message that we aren’t enough, and instead remember Christ died for us, just as we are.
