Brave in resting in God

Have you ever had one of those days where you were miraculously blessed with extra minutes somehow, with nothing urgent on the to-do list, and were able to use that time to take a nap? There is something really sweet about giving yourself permission to take a nap, like a child, in the middle of the day. 

That is the same kind of sweetness in “God’s rest,” a special, holy rest. It might not be a nap, literally, but a calmness of the spirit that comes from trusting God’s sovereignty in your life. We can rest peacefully knowing God has everything under control. 

My son’s favorite NBA basketball team played a few games this season without their star players in the first period. It was unusual but strategic. The coach kept the star players out so they could rest and play stronger later in the game. The star players were able to rest, trusting the other players on the team would set them up for success. God does the same for us, and we can enter into a special rest when we are brave enough to trust Him. 

Father, thank You for the special rest You offer to me. Thank You for setting the example of resting after creating the world. Help me to follow Your lead and enter into Your rest. You are sovereign and I trust You. Amen.
