Mota Language
Mota is a Melanesian language from the south Pacific. It is spoken mostly on the island of Mota in northern Vanuatu, but also in diaspora communities on Vanua Lava, Espiritu Santo and Efate.
New Testament
The New Testament was translated by Robert Henry Codrington, John Palmer, John Coleridge Patteson and L. Pritt all of the Melanesian Mission. The Bible was published in 1912 and revised in 1928. The New Testament (O Vatavata we Garaqa) was further revised by W.G. Ivens of the Anglican Melanesian Mission and published in 1931 by the British and Foreign Bible Society.
Old Testament Selections
Later some Old Testament liturgical selections were included in the Anglican Prayer Book (O Book Tataru). The Prayer Book was produced in Mota in 1947 in New South Wales, where the Melanesian Mission Press relocated briefly during and after World War II.
