God's Gifts Through the Church: Holy Baptism

Clothing serves various purposes. It covers our nakedness, of course. It can also serve as an identifier, linking the wearer to a certain team or company.

St. Paul wrote in Galatians 3:27, “All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Imagine that! You have been adopted by God the Father as his child and get to wear the robes of the holiness of Christ. All the dirt and rags of your sinful life are covered. You are wearing the uniform of the saved. And get this--you don’t have to buy these new clothes. They are Christ’s gift to you through your baptism.

When God looks at you now, he sees you through the lens of that washing. He looks at you and sees the holiness of his beloved Son. No matter how old you get or how far you’ve moved from the original spot, your baptism gives you assurance and comfort that God claims you as his child and that you have the purity you need to live in his world. Thanks to your baptism, you look good to God!
