The Birth of John the Baptist + Zechariah Speaks a Prophecy Over the Infant John
Reflection
Zechariah, John the Baptist’s father, speaks truth over his son. He prophesies that John will turn people away from darkness and towards the light. He speaks about the way that John will usher Jesus in and prepare the way. It is powerful. It is loving. It is mighty.
Can you imagine if your father spoke such life over you? Well, your Heavenly Father has. He has made unfathomable promises over you. He calls us a “people of his own possession,” he calls us a royal priesthood, he says that Jesus reigns and that He’ll come back for us.
When I read these words from Zechariah, I thought, How magnificent to have a father who loves you so ferociously that he’d proclaim truth over you. But, then I remembered, I do have a Father who does this. He has already saved me, He has already planned for me to do good works in His name, and He loves me.
And, as Zechariah said over a tiny baby John, these things are all true because of God’s mercy and God’s goodness, and for God’s glory. The good we do on this earth is for the glory of God, but He has equipped you to do it. He loves you so ferociously that He has invited you to co-labor in bringing Heaven down to Earth and to make disciples of all people.
Prayer
God, mold us into people who believe what you say about us. May we be women who believe more about what our Father says about us than what the world says. This Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us also celebrate the life we have because of Him. Amen.
