DAY 35 OF 181

Hope in Death!
Read Mark 6:14-29

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15

In different parts of the world there has been a growing mistrust between religious groups. This has resulted in many killings that are totally mindless.

John the Baptist was killed after a series of acts of evil people. Herodias was angry because John had declared her marriage to be unlawful (vs 18-19). Her daughter was simply a pawn in her evil mother’s plans but did she not have a conscience? Though Herod feared John, he was more concerned with his personal status rather than righteousness. As a result, John was killed. They were evil people who lost all sense of right and wrong.

We also live in days where people do not know the difference between right and wrong. They simply do whatever they want without thinking of the consequences of their actions. These actions cause great grief and pain to innocent victims.

However, because of Jesus there is always hope. The death of Jesus, too, may be seen as a meaningless act of murder. Yet through this death, life is offered to everyone. John may have died but in Christ he has life. Therefore we should never give up hope, even though we see so many senseless killings around us. Always remember that in Christ, we have life no matter whatever happens to us.

Pray that the Lord will comfort and strengthen the families of Christians who have perished because of their faith in Christ.
