Bible Reflections From Scripture Union Volume OneSample

How Does He Do It?
Read Mark 6:45-56
After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. Mark 6:46
Sometimes I wish I had an extra hour each day. Most people, I imagine, would share this thought. For the Christian, time for service is added to the list of things to do. How do we go on living meaningful lives?
After a long day of ministry, we would expect Jesus to take a rest. Yet during the night, when He was alone, He still took time to look out for His disciples (vs 48-52). Then just as He got out of the boat, He continued His ministry (vs 54-56).
Jesus received His strength from His time alone in prayer with God (v 46). It was through His communion with the Father that He received refreshment. We too can learn from this example and make it a point to be alone with God in prayer for our own refreshment. We receive rest through prayer because prayer refocuses us towards our dependence on God. We receive strength and direction to live meaningful lives. In our times alone with Him, He comforts us and renews us. Prayer also reminds us that we are not alone when we face the worries of life.
Listen to what Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
