The Parables of JesusSample

The Parables of Jesus

DAY 3 OF 36

FORGIVING UNEQUAL DEBTS
While these two passages do not recount the same story, they both deal with the power of forgiveness. "In these two passages, Jesus teaches about the power of forgiveness. In the first parable, Jesus explains the value of forgiveness to a person who is in need of much forgiveness. In the other, Jesus shows that because of His great mercy, we should show great mercy to others." How often do you consider how great God's forgiveness of your sin was on the cross? Are you more likely to try and minimize your sin or magnify His forgiveness? How often do you find yourself thanking him for his forgiveness?

The passage in Matthew also speaks strongly to our responsibility to forgive others. In verse 35 Jesus warns us if we do not forgive our brothers and sisters from our heart, He will not forgive us! This challenge should eliminate any argument against harboring unforgiveness.

So ask yourself: who do you need to forgive? Who have you been harboring bitterness, anger, and resentment towards? A spouse, a child, other family, friends, or coworkers? Is there anyone you need to seek forgiveness from? Who do you need to humble yourselves before and ask for their forgiveness where you might have wronged them?
