Heart for the House Sample

“Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone…’” 2 Samuel 7:8-9 (NLT)
In this verse God reminds David where he came from: just a shepherd boy in a field. God called him, walked with him, and raised him up for a greater purpose: to lead, serve, and honour God with his life. David’s rise wasn’t about status or position—it was about being faithful and available to serve God’s house and His people.
This speaks so clearly to me. When I remember where God brought me from and what He’s done in me life, it humbles me and fuels a desire to honour Him; not just with words, but with how I live, lead, and serve. A heart for the house begins with remembering that we were chosen, not because of who we were, but because of who He is.
No matter your role, on a stage, behind the scenes, or just showing up faithfully: when you serve with the heart of someone who remembers where they came from, your service becomes honour. Whether you lead a ministry or mop a floor, you're building God’s house.
Personally, I’ve found that the most joy and purpose in my life has come when I’ve stopped asking, “What do I have to do for God?” and started asking, “What do I get to do to honour Him?”
Remembering how He lifted me up from broken places, from loss and disappointment, reminds me that any opportunity to serve Him is an honour.
Maybe today your act of honour looks like encouraging someone at church, helping set up chairs, or simply showing up when it's hard. Whatever it is, do it with a heart that says, “You brought me this far, Lord. Now let me serve You with all I have.”
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for choosing me, not because of what I could offer, but because of Your love and purpose. Help me to never forget where You’ve brought me from. Give me a heart that honours You in everything I do. Let my service in Your house be an offering of love and gratitude, not duty. Use my life to build what matters—Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

David was able to set the stage for Solomon to build the temple by providing the victories for Solomon to have peace in the land, provision, and a launch pad for the new season to come. There are lessons in this for us today! For our future generations to see victory, it will take us fighting the battles now, and generously supporting God's plans to come! Join us through 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles and be inspired by how you can be setting the next generation up for victory.
