Listening to God's Voice

DAY 7 OF 11

Jesus Christ Wants to Dwell in Your Heart

Jesus says: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)

If you can hear someone's voice, that person is very close. That is how close Jesus was to people during His life on earth. His followers later wrote of “that which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life.” (1 John 1:1) But Jesus did not stay on the earth. After being crucified by His enemies, He rose again from the dead, and a short time later He returned to heaven. So then His followers could no longer hear His voice—one would think. Yet that is not true. In a letter that the risen Lord Jesus dictated to John, we read that He wants to come even closer. He wants to dwell in our hearts.

In Ephesians 3:16-17, Paul prays for his fellow believers, “that according to the riches of His glory He [= God] may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” What a blessing it is that Jesus wants to be so close to us!

How do you feel about the idea of Jesus dwelling in your heart? How would that affect your life?

About this Plan

Listening to God's Voice

Hearing the voice of God is a profound and essential part of the Christian life. God speaks in various ways—sometimes audibly, through circumstances, through dreams, or through other people. But primarily, He speaks through His written word. This reading plan studies how you can hear God’s voice and respond in faith to draw closer to God and grow in your relationship with Him.
