Behold the Lamb of GodSample

Day 6
During this plan, we have seen many examples of why the name “Lamb of God” was so fitting to be used when referring to Jesus. By calling Jesus a lamb, you would naturally expect Him to be called a sheep after a couple of years. But not with Jesus. He was always referenced as a lamb. Why? I believe that Jesus never grew from a lamb to a sheep because He grew from a lamb to a lion. Jesus went from a sacrifice to becoming a ruler. Philippians chapter 2 describes the attitude and the mission that Jesus had when He came to earth. “He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when He had come as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death-even death on a cross. For this reason, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess in heaven and on earth and under the earth, that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
My question to you, dear reader, since the Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. Have you bowed your knee? Have you confessed with your tongue the Lordship of Jesus? Cause if not, I want to tell you that salvation is in no other name BUT the Name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth. Jesus came as a lamb, and when we put our faith in Him, we receive His sacrificial death on our behalf, and we are reconciled to God. Our sins are forgiven, and our spirit, soul, and body are healed by His blood. Please note that the servant of the Lord didn’t say “Behold the Lamb of God, who only FORGIVES the sins of the world”. Those were not his words; his words were “Behold the Lamb of God who TAKES AWAY the sins of the world.” The difference is that we can be forgiven for our sins, but still repeat them again and again. But Jesus didn’t come just to save us from hell and go to heaven one day. He came so that we can experience and receive heaven right now. And when He takes away our sins, it means that it is possible to live a life free from sin and live for righteousness. We have a responsibility when we deny ourselves and pick up our cross. To pick up your cross means to pick up the life that is pleasing to God. Therefore, we receive with gratitude the blood of the Lamb, for it cleanses us of sin so that we can live in freedom and righteousness.
I do find it interesting, though, that when Jesus spoke of His followers, He never once called us lambs... but only sheep. Did He mean that we are older than Him in a physical sense? No, not at all. He meant that we cannot be our own sacrifice, we cannot make atonement for our own sins, we cannot work our way unto righteousness; only Jesus could do it on our behalf. So what did Jesus mean by calling us sheep? Sheep are another word for followers. In the context of John chapter 10, Jesus called Himself a Shepherd and He is tending His flock of sheep. Jesus feeds us, protects us, nurtures us, leads us, and guides us through the course of life. As believers, we have a responsibility to hold onto Jesus as our sacrificial lamb while being sheep-like followers ourselves. Before the cross, we experience and accept Jesus as the Lamb of God. But after the cross, we encounter an entirely different Jesus. We encounter Jesus as the Lion of Judah. The Victorious One, the Risen One, the Kingly One. And it is Jesus the Lion of God that will return and gather His people for all eternity.
Amen! Hallelujah!

About this Plan

Throughout Scripture and especially the New Testament, we find a lot of analogies being used to describe the character and the role of Jesus Christ towards us, as humanity. In this plan, we will look at the similarities between Jesus and a lamb and how and why we need to connect to Him as the Lamb of God. Another plan to read together with this one: "Behold the Lion of God"
