How to Talk (and Listen) to God
Have you ever felt weird praying, like you didn’t know what to say, or wondered if God was even listening? Here’s the truth—prayer doesn’t have to be fancy or perfect. It’s just a real, honest conversation with God. Think about how you text or talk to a close friend. You’re real. You’re honest. You just say what’s on your mind. That’s how God wants you to talk to Him.
Christianity isn’t about just going to church or following rules. It’s about knowing God and building a real relationship with Him. And just like with any friendship, the only way to get closer is by spending time together—talking and listening. That’s what prayer is. It’s telling God what’s going on in your life, your struggles, your dreams, even your random thoughts. But it’s also about listening. God speaks through the Bible, through worship, and sometimes through that quiet feeling of peace in your heart.
But here’s something cool—God cares more about your heart than the words you say. He’s not grading your prayers or waiting for you to say the “right” thing. He just wants you to be real. When you pray, you’re showing that you trust Him and that you believe He’s listening—because He is. Jeremiah 29:12 is a promise that when you pray, God hears you.
And prayer isn’t just about getting what you want. It’s about aligning your heart with God’s. Sometimes, the answer is “yes,” sometimes “not yet,” and sometimes it’s “I have something better.” But every time, God is working.
Prayer is a simple conversation with God that builds a deeper connection with Him. It expresses our trust and dependence on Him, showing that He cares more about our relationship than our requests. Prayer is powerful, aligning us with God’s will as we trust His timing and plans.
Response:
● Start Simple: Start by just sharing your heart with God.
● Listen for God: After praying, take a moment to stay silent, and ask God to speak to you through a Bible verse, a thought, or even through worship.
● Write It Down: Keep a small notebook to jot down your prayers and anything you feel God is showing you.
● Pray Throughout Your Day: Don’t wait for a “perfect moment.” Talk to God while walking, in class, or when you feel stressed.
