Healing Family Relationships Through Prayer

DAY 6 OF 6

Let's pray that God would make himself look good through the struggle and healing of our family relationships. The biblical concept here is that we want God to glorify himself. We want Him to reveal Himself, to show off His power, to act in such a way that people see it and praise Him for His goodness.

This is the power of testimonies. When we hear someone's conversion story about how God brought them from darkness into light, from death to life, we don't come away saying, "Wow, that is such an amazing person. He pulled himself up by the bootstraps and really made something of his life." No, we say, "Wow, God is so good. His love and His power are amazing. No one is beyond His ability to save and redeem." A story of healing makes God look good.

When you pray for the broken relationships in your family, remember that there is more at stake than "patching things up.” These are situations through which God can show off His love and power. Consider praying along these lines:

"Lord, I know you love to take broken things and make them whole. I know you love to take dead things and make them alive. I am asking you to heal this broken relationship I have with ________. Not only do I want you to heal this relationship for our sake, but I also know that if you do this, you will look good! I will give you all the credit for this miracle. This will be a 'God-story' we will tell for generations to come!"

When God heals a relationship that seemed beyond repair, He gets the glory. People see His power and are drawn to Him. Your healed relationship becomes a testimony to His goodness.

Reflection Question: How might God get glory from healing your broken family relationship?
