Affirming Godly Masculinity: A Devotional for Husbands
God has called us to be strong, godly leaders in our homes, affirming our identity as men created in His image. In today’s culture, masculinity is often misunderstood or diminished, but Scripture reminds us of our purpose: to lead, protect, and nurture our families with Christ-like love and intentionality.
1. Be Strong in Your Identity (Ephesians 5:26)
Biblical masculinity isn’t about dominance or self-interest; it’s about Christ-like sacrifice. We are called to love our wives as Christ loves the church, laying down our desires when necessary to prioritize their well-being and our family’s needs. Being strong means standing firm in our identity as godly men, even when the world challenges or diminishes that calling.
Reflect: Are we modeling Christ’s sacrificial love for our families? In what ways can we affirm and strengthen our identity as godly husbands and fathers?
2. Lead by Example (Proverbs 22:6)
Our actions as husbands and fathers set the standard for our children. Sons learn what it means to be a man by watching us, and daughters often seek qualities in a spouse that reflect what they see in their fathers. Being strong means leading with integrity, consistency, and a heart focused on God.
Reflect: What kind of example are we setting for our children? How can we ensure our actions align with the qualities we want to instill in them?
3. Prioritize Your Family Over Personal Passions (Ephesians 6:4)
Even good things, like hobbies or ministries, can become distractions if they take priority over our families. Being a strong husband and father means making hard choices to ensure our time and energy go toward what truly matters. By modeling this discipline, we demonstrate to our families that they are our top priority after God.
Reflect: Are there activities or commitments that are taking time and energy away from our family? How can we realign our priorities to reflect God’s calling for us as husbands and fathers?
4. Teach and Reflect God’s Character
Our families look to us to lead spiritually, teaching them God’s Word and modeling Christ-like behavior. While we’ll never achieve perfection, we are called to strive toward Christ’s example, knowing our efforts have eternal significance.
Reflect: Are we regularly teaching our families about God and modeling Christ-like behavior? How can we grow in leading them spiritually?
Living as Godly Men
God has entrusted us with the privilege and responsibility of leading our families. Let’s commit to these principles:
- Be Strong: Embrace and affirm our identity as godly men.
- Lead by Example: Model Christ-like behavior for our wives and children.
- Prioritize Family: Place our marriage and family above personal passions.
- Teach God’s Word: Reflect Christ’s character in all we do.
As we walk in obedience to God’s design for us, we strengthen our marriages, guide our children, and glorify Him. Let’s strive to be the men He has called us to be, knowing that our wives and children are watching and learning from our example.
About this Plan

A God-honoring marriage is one of the greatest witnesses to the world. Jesus, as the bridegroom, chose marriage to illustrate His love for the church. When a husband lives out sacrifice, honor, righteousness, and love, he reflects the gospel. Honorable Husbands helps you love your wife well, impacting your walk with Christ. Featuring insights from nine teachers, we focus on God's Word to address key areas like purity, service, finances, leadership, and parenting. Our prayer is that you’ll be inspired to love sacrificially, just as Christ loved the church. Don’t just be a good husband—be honorable.
