How does Jesus speak to me?

Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. “How can this be?” they asked. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Gracious is defined as courteous, kind, pleasant and full of grace.

I can only imagine how those who came into direct contact with Jesus felt. No doubt, they were left feeling like a champion and equipped to deal with whatever they were facing.

Imagine Jesus speaking to you with kind, courteous, and pleasant words.

Jesus speaks to us in such a gracious way that empowers us to live, achieve, overcome, forgive and believe for the impossible. It’s not just the words He uses, it’s the holistic, loving and empowering tone He uses surrounding the words He speaks. This is why people noted His gracious words.

How do you imagine Jesus speaking to you? If you have ever likened Him to anyone who is not gracious, this image couldn’t be further from who Jesus is.

Below is a verse from the old testament that described what people could expect Jesus to be like…

“Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. 2 He will not shout or raise his voice in public. 3 He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. 4 He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.” Isaiah 42:1-4 NLT

If you have ever framed words coming from Jesus in a negative way, maybe today is the day to adopt a correct understanding of how He speaks to you. Even when He corrects us, and He does, it will always come with truth surrounded by His immeasurable grace. He loves you!

1. Have I imagined Jesus speaking to me like someone unkind, that I know?

2. Do I need to reframe how Jesus actually speaks to me?

3. Write down some gracious phrases Jesus would speak over you.

Example: “I love you and think the world of you”. - Jesus

Prayer:

Jesus, thank you that you are gracious and kind, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Help me to see you and hear you, for who you really are. Amen. 🙏🏽
