More Than Just a Story - the Book of John

DAY 9 OF 56

Have you ever had times in your life where you have felt so thirsty that it’s felt like there’s no amount of water that could possibly quench your thirst? It almost becomes an all-consuming thought.

I think this “thirst” applies to more than just actual hydration… I think our physical beings become thirsty for things of this world and we spend so much time and energy trying to feed our flesh with the things that the world and our culture tells us will satisfy it that we miss out on the areas of our lives that God is trying to show us we’ve been neglecting - primarily our when it comes to our spiritual health… similarly to the Samaritan woman at the well.

Jesus’ ability to identify with our physical needs allowed for Him to start an incredible spiritual conversation with the Samaritan woman about thirst.

The Samaritan woman is so concerned with drawing the water and quenching her physical thirst that she misses Jesus telling her about the living water that brings eternal life - that could rid her of her sins, her past, her regrets, and her mistakes with His unconditional love.

Like the Samaritan woman, at times we obsess so much over quenching our physical thirsts that we begin to experience a spiritual dehydration. Jesus used the Samaritan woman’s natural thirst to show her her spiritual need for His living water - for eternal life with Him!

I think sometimes God uses our physical crisis to reveal our need for Him and our need to be close to Him. It’s incredibly comforting to know that our God not only identifies with our physical needs, but He replenishes us as well.

Have there been times in your life where you’ve felt spiritually dehydrated?
How could God be using your current situation to help you experience refreshment through Him and His living water?
