The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7Sample

As a parent, I have come to realise how wonderful it is when kids obey. I wish I had this perspective growing up! In hindsight, my lack of obedience towards my parents often communicated a low level love and respect for them. I would say that I loved them but my disobedience proved otherwise.
How do you go about showing Jesus that you love Him? Does your method of love line up with how the scriptures call us to exemplify that love? The Apostle John makes it clear in 1 John 2:3-6, that our love for Christ is shown through obedience to His word. This is a confronting instruction to hear and an even harder instruction to live out.
I want to ascribe to loving Jesus, say I love Jesus, even look like I love Jesus with my hands raised in worship during a Sunday service. God, however, looks at the heart. If we really love Jesus we will hear and obey His commands. Our lives will look more like His as we continue to mature as Christians. One day, our love for Jesus will be perfect, we’ll perfectly live with Him and bring Him glory in all that we do.
Today, ponder this: What parts of your life are not honouring or glorifying Jesus? List them down and pray through each, committing them to Jesus knowing that He forgives, redeems and restores us through His grace and love!

About this Plan

“You have heard it said…” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins to rebuild and reform our understanding of life in His Kingdom. In Matthew 5-7, He challenges the religious traditions of His day and the competing worldviews of our own. His words are a call to transformation—a new way to live under His reign. As Jesus lays the foundation for His Kingdom, we are invited to tear down false beliefs and build our lives on His truth.
