Christian DiscernmentSample

Common Sense Discernment
Today, we’re focusing on common sense discernment, which is essential for navigating life and relationships. Common sense isn’t just something you learn from reading or listening—it’s developed through experience, trial and error. When we face challenges, we learn what works and what doesn’t. Over time, common sense becomes the ability to discern wise choices from poor ones, helping us navigate daily decisions in alignment with God’s wisdom. Proverbs 2:10 reminds us that wisdom enters our heart and knowledge fills our soul, guiding us to make choices that are beneficial. Reflecting on our actions and their outcomes is key to developing common sense.
Discernment involves not only learning from experience but also being teachable and willing to change when necessary. Pride or fear of change can often hold us back, making us repeat mistakes. Yet, as we become more aware of the impact of our choices, we learn to rely on common sense to guide us. Whether in relationships, finances, or ministry, common sense helps us evaluate our actions, learn from our failures, and grow in wisdom. Scripture calls us to be faithful with what we have, using our God-given common sense to make decisions that honor Him and lead to constructive outcomes in our lives.
Closing Prayer:
"Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of wisdom and discernment. Help us to develop the common sense that comes from walking with You daily, learning from experience, and seeking Your guidance in all things. May we remain humble and open to correction, always willing to grow in our understanding of Your will. Guide us to make decisions that reflect Your love and wisdom, and give us the courage to change when necessary. As we navigate the challenges of life, help us rely on Your truth to guide our path. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."
Discussion Question:
How can you apply the lessons from past experiences to make wiser, more discerning decisions in your current relationships, work, or personal growth?
