God's Faithfulness

DAY 4 OF 7

Great is Thy faithfulness

I remember growing up in church and one of my favourite hymns was from this verse. The words were: ‘The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning, new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness, O Lord.’ As a kid, I sang these songs that everyone else was singing without truly understanding the words; not knowing that the person who wrote this song had an understanding from the Bible and wrote out of a moment of revelation and connection with God.

This song was birthed out of a small church in the 1970s in Houston, Texas, by Edith McNeill. Fast forward to the ‘90s, to a small Fijian church in Rockdale, south of Sydney, where a young girl (me) unknowingly sang this scripture over her future. I didn’t know what struggles, challenges, or victories were waiting for me in my 35 years to come, but I did learn as I got older singing this song that God’s love is steadfast. He never changes, therefore I can hold onto Him and believe He is faithful in every season.

What are you singing over your life? I think about this all the time. My words hold so much power. I can speak joy and faith over my life or I can tear myself down. Can I encourage you to speak joy and kindness today? Where it’s easy to look at your life’s situation and feel deflated, instead choose to change your confession, look upwards and proclaim, ‘Great is thy faithfulness’. Take a moment to remember the promises God has answered and delivered in your life, and know that He’s done it before and WILL do it again. He will see you through what you’re going through.
