Help I Need Discipline

DAY 1 OF 5

God's discipline is all about how God's correction reflects His love and desire to shape us into His image. For many, the word "discipline" carries a negative connotation. We live in a world where people often desire complete freedom—no rules, no restrictions. I get it. As adults, it can feel liberating to finally call the shots because we've spent much of our lives being told what to do. But I didn't understand growing up: discipline is a gift when given with love. Like many, I assumed my parents disciplined me out of anger, frustration, or disappointment. They never explained its purpose or the benefits it could bring to my life. I wasn't raised in a Christian home, and some of the discipline I experienced bordered on abuse.

That distorted view of discipline shaped my thinking and followed me well into adulthood, even after I became a Christian. I carried a defiant mindset—determined to live on my terms. It wasn't until I hit a point where my way of doing things stopped working that I realized something had to change. I wanted more out of life—something deeper and more meaningful.

I focused more on godly disciplines and that it isn't about punishment and control. It's about a father's love, guidance, protection, and transforming power. Increase came when I embraced this view and began setting boundaries and disciplines. I experienced a shift in my heart and habits. I learned discipline was not intended to be a burden of control but a way, like the scripture defines, that leads to life, freedom, and growth.

Prayer:

Father, I acknowledge You in all my ways and ask that You lead me. Unconditionally have you loved me, and I thank you. I understand that Your love brings protection and provision. I humbly receive all Your discipline, knowing it is for my good and Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
