What Do Christians Believe?Sample

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)
The Lord God is the Almighty. He rules the entire world. This is stressed especially in the book of Revelation, which describes in vivid images the horrible consequences of sin and evil in this world and the suffering of God’s people. Against this background, the fact that God is almighty is proclaimed and celebrated. Sin and evil won’t have the last word. The situation on earth won’t get out of God’s control. He is almighty, just, and true (see Revelation 15:3). He will judge justly and put an end to death, mourning, and pain. He will make all things new.
The statement that God is almighty does not answer all difficult questions as to why He allows so much evil in this world. However, it does give us firm ground when we suffer. For even if we don’t understand why God is letting certain things happen, we believe that He is in control and that “for those who love God all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28). We need not be afraid that Satan has more power than God, or that God is subject to fate. Instead, we can join the great multitude in God’s presence, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.” (Revelation 19:6)
How does the belief that God is almighty help you?
About this Plan

In 2025, the worldwide church celebrates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an assembly representing all of Christendom. At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
