I Received Jesus! Now What?

DAY 4 OF 6

Protection

Today let's talk about God’s protection. Because you are a child of God, the enemy (Satan) hates you. Since he failed to keep you from knowing God, his next goal is to render you ineffective for the kingdom.

Did you know God has a plan for your life? The enemy would like to stop God’s plan by dragging you into sinful behavior. If he can do that, you will no longer feel comfortable around other believers. Going to church will make you feel uncomfortable because of your guilt. You will feel like you can’t serve God because of thoughts like, “... but look what I’ve done!” Slowly you will fade into the shadows and lose the joy of your salvation.

You need God’s protection! In Ephesians 6 we are told to put on the whole armor of God. Therefore, every follower of Christ needs to be wearing their armor. You will never be so spiritually mature that you won’t need it. Stop! Think about that.

Putting on your spiritual armor goes hand-in-hand with experiencing the presence of the Lord. You can dress for success by practicing the presence of God we talked about before. Consistency is the key. If you stop or become hit-and-miss in your time with God, you will be walking naked through life and become a prime target for the enemy.

I wish I could tell you that life will now be easy because you belong to Jesus. Not true. We live in a broken world. There will be hurtful times, but here is the good news: Belonging to Jesus means you will never experience those bad times alone. In the end, God will bring a good outcome. I love this promise found in Romans 8:28: And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

God has a purpose for your life. How exciting is that? We all need purpose. But, before we look at that, I want you to know that God supplies the power for what He has called you to do! That is next on our to-do list.

About this Plan

I Received Jesus! Now What?

Setting priorities is an essential step for becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ. Oswald Chambers, a famous theologian, once said "The busyness of things obscures our concentration on God ... Never let a hurried lifestyle disturb the relationship of abiding in Him. This is an easy thing to allow, but we must guard against it." Let’s talk about abiding in God.
