The Prince Without a Name

DAY 7 OF 9

The Prince's Death Brings Peace

The death of the child was not in vain. Despite the anguish and pain, his death brought a sense of peace and reconciliation to the House of David. After the death of his son, David stood up, washed himself, fed himself and returned to his life and found inner peace with God. Likewise, the Death of Jesus brought peace and reconciliation not only for Israel, but for all Humanity.

The people were relieved, the enemies of God suffered no punishment, justice averted a sure fratricidal war and a much greater tragedy in the House of David for power. As the apostle Paul says: having made peace through the Blood of his Cross, through Him to reconcile all things to himself.

The death of the child represents an atoning sacrifice: if the child had not died, David, the one who had sinned, would have died. This sacrifice saved David from condemnation, thus allowing the continuation of the royal lineage, from which Jesus would be born. This parallelism is evident in the Mission of Christ, who died in our place: Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us.

The death of the child was necessary so that the Savior of the world could be born. If David had been punished with death for his sins, God's Plan of Redemption could not have been fulfilled, and the Promised Messiah would not have been born from his lineage.

The sacrifice of the nameless prince saved David and Bathsheba, allowing them to live and to give continuity to the Davidic lineage up to Jesus. Bathsheba, in fact, gave birth to Solomon and Nathan to David, ancestors of Joseph and Mary respectively. If that child had not died, David would have been condemned, Christ would not have been born, and there would have been no Salvation for us.

About this Plan

The Prince Without a Name

The story of David told in 2 Samuel 11 and 12 is one of the most profound narratives in the Bible, as it shows us the power of sin, the consequence of human actions but also the great Mercy of God that He has shown not only to David and all the accomplices of the story but also, after several millennia, to our lives. This story focuses on David, the King of Israel, who fell into a series of serious sins, but who found the way to forgiveness thanks to his sincere repentance.
