Back to the beginning
John’s Gospel repeats the opening line of the Bible: ‘In the beginning.’ It’s a big hint that our creator, who made everything, is about to show up in person. That’s why Jesus is called ‘the Word’. When God spoke and said, ‘Let there be light,’ the whole universe began. Jesus is God’s Word, showing up in person. He’s a new beginning for all of us.
Bear Grylls says
It’s incredible to think that God became a human being like you and me. He wasn’t just pretending. He really knows what we’re like.
The lamb of God
White lambs, leaping and playing in the fields – it’s a beautiful picture of innocence and purity. John the Baptist identified Jesus as God’s Lamb. He was pointing to the temple in Jerusalem, where lambs were sacrificed every day to provide forgiveness for the people. John was predicting the way Jesus would live a pure life but then die as a sacrifice for sins on the cross.
