Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked. “Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied. “I am he,” Jesus said. (Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.) As Jesus said “I am he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground!

Jesus steps forward and asks, “Who are you looking for?” even though He knows that suffering lies ahead of Him. Rather than hiding, He walks boldly and transparently to meet His accusers. He shows up in vulnerability.

Ronald Rolheiser notes that vulnerability is the key to spiritual growth because it strips us of our pretense. We give God permission to meet us as we are. Lent is a time to step into our vulnerability, take off the masks we wear, and allow Jesus to meet us in our brokenness.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This invitation is for those who are willing to acknowledge their weakness, and their need for Him.

Reflection: Take a moment today to reflect on an area of ​​your life where you feel weak or vulnerable. Offer it to Jesus in prayer and ask Him to meet you in that place and transform it with His presence.

Prayer: I ask for the grace to seek You above all else and to follow You with trust and surrender.
