How to Multiply the Gospel // Gospel X - Multiplying the Gospel

DAY 3 OF 7

God has a heart for the poor and marginalized. They are his children like anyone else and He is their Father. Throughout the Torah, the first five books of Moses, God set several laws to protect the poor, the sick, widows and orphans. The Israelites were to be a people where no one should be allowed to be poor. The Year of Jubilee was introduced to ensure that every 50 years everyone would regain their lost property. (The Year of Jubilee was a tradition that acknowledged God being the owner of everything and therefore, by “resetting” the possessions of every family to the original idea, God was glorified.) This tradition helped those who had to sell their land and became slaves, to regain their former status and land.

Jesus also has the same heart for the poor and marginalized. He accepts them and takes care of them and he encourages them in his parables and teachings that they are seen by God and worthy. The apostles have understood this and they make sure to care for the poor among them. Once they realize there is a group of poor people being overlooked, they set up a system to make sure that they are cared for. The first seven deacons are appointed.

  • God has the same heart as always. He still cares for the poor and marginalized. Therefore, the poor and marginalized should also be on your heart.
  • Are the poor and marginalized in your heart? Maybe one specific group, like homeless people, criminals, modern slaves, Roma etc.?
  • What does it do to you?
  • Is it influencing your behaviour?
  • In what way?

By being there for the poor and marginalized, helping and caring for them, you are reflecting Jesus to the people around you. You are naturally sharing the gospel, through your behaviour and lifestyle. Both to those watching you and those that are helped.

About this Plan

How to Multiply the Gospel // Gospel X - Multiplying the Gospel

Jesus left the church the vision of a movement when he challenged us to reproduce from our own Jerusalem into “Judea, Samaria and the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). For us to see a movement, we need every Christ follower to adopt Jesus' personal mission to “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). Evangelism is core to the mission of Jesus and essential to accomplishing his vision. This plan is part of a 5 week journey built around the topic Gospel X - Multiplying the gospel.
