Welcome to your seventh consecutive day of praying and fasting. While God has been active and powerfully working in and through you these days, tomorrow will be the beginning of a new God-sized future based on your faithfulness and commitment to be all-in on seeking God humbly with all your heart. The best is yet to come!
Today’s passage acts as a transition for the entire book of Joel, indicated by the use of “after this.” The term “after this” or “afterward,” depending on the translation, is very significant because everything Joel is about to describe in verse 28 and in the verses that follow occurred because of all that happened in Joel 1:1–2:27. Let me explain briefly.
First, God’s people were under the judgment of God. In 1:1–14, God took away their provision, protection, and joy. In 2:12–17, God’s people responded to him by returning to him in prayer, fasting, and repentance. Then in 2:18–27, God answered their prayer and saw the change in their heart and lifestyle. When he saw it, God lifted the judgment against his people. God supernaturally responded to their praying, fasting, repenting, weeping, and mourning. Once again, God provided for them, protected them, and granted them joy.
The initial fulfillment of God pouring out his Spirit happened on the day of Pentecost. However, the complete fulfillment of it will come in the season just before the return of Christ. It will usher in evangelism as we have never seen and a gospel explosion in our generation in a supernatural way.
We are on the brink of the mightiest outpouring of the Holy Spirit that has ever happened in the world. I believe God calling you to this prayer and fasting journey is all part of preparing his people for his supernatural outpouring of the Spirit that will come in the last days. You are experiencing the supernatural power of prayer and fasting now and for the future. After this, including your time of prayer and fasting, God will pour out his Spirit on all humanity. Even so, Lord Jesus, come!
Lord, please pour out your Spirit on me today and in my future. I want to experience your supernatural power. Amen.
