Journey With Purpose: 25 Days of Growing Closer to GodSample
Seeing the Unseen
Embracing those we often overlook
Every day we pass people we do not notice. Often it is because we encounter so many people, and it is hard to see individuals in the midst of the crowd. At other times it is because we are too busy and do not see them. Singer Ginny Owens, who is blind, uses this idea of being unseen as a reminder to discover someone you may not know.
Listen to Ginny:
Zacchaeus was “unseen” until he climbed a tree and Jesus noticed him. The story from Luke uses some vivid imagery. Jesus called him by name, He used the phrase "come down quick," and Zacchaeus had great excitement and joy. The over-the-top response of Zacchaeus shows how much it means to be noticed. Keep your eyes open for ways you can get to know some of the "unseen" around you - those who may not be like you. Then look for ways you can be a friend to them.
Application Question:
- Ginny says "I think it is so important that in our busy life...that we are aware of who is around us and that we get to know those in our space." Ask the Lord who is in "your space" so that you can get to know them better. How can you reach out to them this week?
