Building Wealth & Stewardship in the Church

DAY 2 OF 7

DAY 2 – BREAKING FREE

The first thing on the agenda is we must break free from our old mindset. Sometimes, our views and habits of handling finances have been with us for years. They may have even been passed down from generation to generation and have formed a fortress around what we allow to live in our hearts versus what we read in The Word of God. You see, when we don’t trust and believe that our Great God, the God who supplies all of our needs according to His riches in glory, doesn’t want us to be productive, successful, and prosperous, then we are tied to a yoke that must be destroyed.

Does this mean that every Christian will become a millionaire? No, it doesn’t! But what it does mean is we should have more than enough both naturally and spiritually. How else can God charge us with helping the sick, the poor, the widows, and the elderly, when we don’t even have enough for our own families? How can we become the lenders and not the borrowers, the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, if we are barely making it, living paycheck to paycheck? When we are limited in our finances, we are also limited in our ability to help others. So, more than enough means we have enough for our families, some to share with others, and still some more to build an inheritance that will flow down to our children’s children in the natural as well as the spiritual!

When the spies went out to survey Canaan, they found that the land flowed with milk and honey, just as the Lord said it would. God didn’t lead them to a place that was impoverished and destitute; He led them to a land that was rich and fruitful! Ten of the spies saw themselves as grasshoppers in their own sight because they were measuring themselves to men rather than comparing the men against their God. The Lord has promised to increase us and our children more and more. The question is, whose report are we going to believe?

I might also question, if wealth and riches are inherently evil, then why are they found in Heaven? Furthermore, where was it written that Jesus was poor? Yes, He was born in a manger, but that was by design. Everything Jesus had need of on Earth was provided, from the poll tax to an unused colt, to the Last Supper. Our Lord and Savior was far from poor!

I think we can agree that wealth is definitely more than money, but in this world, finances are very necessary. The Lord doesn’t have a problem with us having money, He just doesn’t want us to fall in love with it and make it our god. But the devil is a liar, it is not in money that we place our trust, it is in God we trust.
