Jesus had just healed a woman who had been hunched over for eighteen years. Eighteen. Long. Years. For all that time, she wasn’t able to stand up straight. Day after day, she saw her feet, other people’s feet, the dusty road directly in front of her. If she strained and stretched, which was likely painful, she could speak with a friend face-to-face. Aches and pain were constant companions. But then she met Jesus. And with a touch from His hands, she was set free.
Oh, it was a beautiful, glorious thing! How could anyone not share in the woman’s joy? The leaders of the synagogue—where the healing had taken place—were not rejoicing. They were angry because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, that special day of God-prescribed rest. These men were missing the point of it all. The Sabbath was to be a special day devoted to the Lord, and what better way to honor God than by loving others? Too often, we rush from this place to that, completing our tasks, checking off items on our to-do list, and pushing forward to the next thing. But, in truth, God’s timetable is the only one that matters. He places people across our path who need a special touch, maybe a blessing that we can give or a moment of prayer. God, please make us aware of these divine moments. We want to live knowing it’s never the wrong time to do the right thing!

About this Plan
History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
