Day 182 of 365
In today’s readings, we are reminded of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of living with eternity in mind. Ecclesiastes 12:1 tells us, “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth,” urging us to honor God throughout our lives. As the writer reflects on the brevity of life, he concludes that the only lasting purpose is found in fearing God and keeping His commandments.
In Acts 10, we see the story of Peter’s encounter with Cornelius, a Gentile who feared God. This was a pivotal moment in the early church, as it revealed that the Holy Spirit was not reserved solely for the Jewish people but was available to all who believed. As Peter shared the gospel with Cornelius and his household, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He had fallen upon the disciples at Pentecost. This event confirmed that God’s plan of salvation extends to every nation, tribe, and tongue.
Living with eternity in mind means walking in the power of the Holy Spirit daily. The Spirit not only equips us to live godly lives but also empowers us to fulfill the Great Commission—to share the gospel with all people, knowing that eternity hangs in the balance. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost wasn’t just a historical event; it was the beginning of a movement that continues today. The same Spirit that filled Peter and Cornelius is at work in us, empowering us to live lives that point others to Jesus.
What does it mean to live with eternity in mind? It means recognizing that our time on earth is temporary, but the decisions we make have eternal significance. It means allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our steps, aligning our priorities with God’s kingdom purposes. It means sharing the good news of Jesus with those around us, knowing that the Holy Spirit is already at work in their hearts, preparing them to receive the gospel.
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you live with eternity in mind. Surrender your plans, your time, and your resources to Him, and ask Him to lead you in making decisions that reflect His eternal purposes. Whether it’s sharing your faith with a coworker, serving someone in need, or simply living with integrity and kindness, trust that the Holy Spirit will use your life to make an eternal impact. Remember that, just as Peter was led by the Spirit to Cornelius, the Holy Spirit is leading you to people who need to hear the message of hope and salvation. Let Him guide you as you live for eternity.
