There Is No Law Against These Things

DAY 6 OF 9

Day 6

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23)

Goodness, the sixth fruit of the Spirit, reflects God's moral purity and desire for His people to live in ways that honor Him. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus calls us to "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Goodness is not only about doing good but about doing so in a way that points others to God's glory.

Romans 12:9 reminds us that "love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Goodness involves choosing what is morally right, even when difficult or socially/politically unpopular. Ephesians 5:8-9 encourages us to "live as children of light… for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth." The goodness we display as believers is evidence of the light of Christ shining in our lives.

In 1 Timothy 6:18, Paul instructs us to "do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." Goodness is an active expression of faith through generosity, service, and selflessness. In Titus 2:7-8, Paul tells Titus to "set them an example by doing what is good" and to live in a way that cannot be criticized. Goodness is not about seeking recognition but living a life that consistently reflects the character of Christ.

For Goodness' Sake

Goodness begins in the hearta heart that desires to please God. Practice goodness by choosing what is right in everyday decisions, even when no one is watching. Serve others without expecting anything in return. Let your actions reflect the goodness of God in all you do. Focus on living with integrity, making choices that reflect God's nature, and bringing honor to Him.

About this Plan

There Is No Law Against These Things

The fruit of the Holy Spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23, represents God's transformative work in the life of a believer. These qualities are woven throughout Scripture, offering a portrait of the Christlike character we are called to embody. Embracing these virtues is the definitive mark of a life changed by Jesus and empowered by His Holy Spirit. This nine-part devotional will explore just what that looks like in the life of a true Christ-follower.
