What is the key to discerning the days in which we live and the future return of Christ?

The disciples of Christ lived in days that were under Roman rule. There was an insatiable desire to know what would come next. They often wondered when would the Jewish people be set free from Roman rule and be restored to their rightful place of power. Jesus used this desire to share a far greater truth. Jesus told them that they should not be consumed with the Jewish people being restored to power, but rather they should focus on living in light of Jesus’ return.

How can a believer live in a state of “watching” for Jesus’ return? What should the priorities be of a Christian who is looking forward to the return of Christ? How can we avoid neglecting eternal matters in our daily lives?
