A Year in Luke/Acts

DAY 338 OF 364

We’ve noted the theme of temples throughout Luke and especially in Acts. Although temples are hardly explicitly mentioned in the last section of the book, a theme they have raised is still evident.

“But temples, anyway, being places where heaven and earth are joined, are thus places of power. In the first half of the book, the church confronts the Jerusalem authorities. Now Paul confronts the Roman governor and the man who at the time was known (though Luke doesn’t call him this) as ‘king of the Judeans,’ Herod Agrippa II.” (NT Wright, p141, The Challenge of Acts)

The church, as the new temple, has become the center of God’s power on earth. They must be prepared to be witnesses to this before the earth’s centers of power.
